JonyJib
introduced the JonyJib Pro Modular Camera
Crane at NAB 2006 where it received a warm
reception. Crane shoppers were pleased with
the design and simplicity, as well as, the
price. The 21 foot, fully operational,
version was on display. It was also fitted
with the MotorHead 30 motorized pan & tilt
unit, ZR2000 zoom & focus unit, an LCD
monitor all powered by a 12 volt Anton Bauer
Gold Mount via a handy power distribution
box.
What sets this crane apart from others is
its ability to telescope and nest within
itself. This crane’s modularity is built on
its lightweight, octagonal, aluminum, black
anodized 4 foot extension sections which
start at the tail of the jib, with the
largest diameter, and progressively get
smaller as you get closer to the camera. The
best part is, the arm breaks down to fit
into a 48” tripod bag or case. The pivot,
camera platform, rear control center and
miscellaneous items fit into a Pelican 1650
case.
The JonyJib Pro is expandable from 9’ (2
sections) to 24’(9 sections) in 3’
increments. Each extension tube is 4’ long
giving a 1’ overlap between sections. Since
each section slides out, pulled from the
previous sections, you may store unused
sections in the tail as ballast weight. This
lightens your counterweight demand. You can
initially buy as few, or as many, sections as you
need, then purchase more sections when you
need them.
The pivot point is pre-drilled to mount an
optional Anton Bauer Gold Mount plate kit
that feeds a 12 volt power distribution box
at the tail. The distribution box feeds
power to the motorized pan & tilt head, zoom
& focus controls, the monitor and the
camera. The pivot point is also pre-drilled
to mount an optional monitor platform for
8-9” CRT style monitors. The adjustable camera
platform leveling tether is also anchored at
the pivot point.
The camera platform is designed to
over-sling or under-sling the motorized pan
& tilt head without any changes. Just attach
it ‘either way’ and there’s 360 degree pan &
tilt clearance.
The main arm and extension sections are
aluminum while the pivot
point, camera platform and rear control
center are steel. They're all powder coated with a cobalt
black finish.
If you’ve been asking yourself why bigger
cranes cost so much, ask no more...This
crane is priced right. This is where it
might make more sense to buy your own crane
rather than rent one. But if you still
prefer to rent, you’ll see these popping up
at your local rental houses.
Either way you’ll want to check this one
out! |

Frequently Asked Questions |
| |
| Do
JonyJibs come with everything
you need to start shooting? |
| All
you need to add is your 100mm bowl
tripod (like a Bogen 3192) and
spreader or instead of a spreader we
recommend a heavy duty dolly like a
Bogen 3067. Then add counterweights
and your camera. |
| |
| How
do I balance the JonyJib on my
tripod? |
| Once
you mount the jib on the tripod
bowl, you can level the heavy duty
hub with a bubble level. Then just
add the proper amount of 'flat
steel' plate weights to balance your
gear. (we do not recommend the
plastic weights filled with
concrete) You can get flat steel
plate weights from most sporting
goods stores. |
| |
|
What is the difference between the
two JonyJibs you
offer? |
| The
primary difference is the length of
the reach of each arm. All JonyJib
height measurements are based a on
48" base or tripod height and are
measured from the floor or ground to
the middle of the over-slung camera lens. The
JonyJib2 reaches a height of 18 feet
with a 12 foot reach and mounts with
a 100mm half ball. The JonyJib Pro
reaches a height of 30 feet with a
24 foot reach and mounts via a
Mitchell style mount and requires a
heavier duty tripod. Each jib can be
ordered or operated at shorter
lengths. |
| |
|
What if I want to move the camera
independent of the jib movement? |
| These
are called compound moves. This is
accomplished via a "hot head" or
commonly called a motorized pan & tilt head.
We offer the Bescor MP101 for
smaller cameras (up to 6 lbs.), a
MotorHead20 which carries cameras up to 20
lbs and a MotorHead 30 which carries
cameras up to 30 lbs.. These units allow you to
move the camera independent of the
direction of the jib movement. These
give you very interesting and
professional shots! |
| |
| How
do I see what the camera sees and
control zoom & focus? |
| The
Rear Control Center (RCC) gives
complete one or two hand control of
your JonyJib. The RCC can be
underslung or overslung, whichever
you are most comfortable with. It
provides mounts for an LCD monitor,
zoom/focus control and pan/tilt
control all in a compact, handsome
and easy to manuever design. This
unit will hold a 5-6" LCD monitor
that you connect to the camera's
video output. If you own a Sony or
Canon DV camera with LANC then you
can add the ZR1000 LANC controller
for focus, zoom and other camera
controls. There is also an available
monitor mounting platform that holds
a 5" - 8" CRT style production
monitor. For larger ENG style
cameras you will need the ZR2000 zoom
and focus controls that operate a
variety of Canon or Fujinon
professional ENG style lenses. |
| |
| How
do all the cables get from the
camera to the rear of the jib? |
| All
JonyJibs sections are linked
together, down the top of each
section, with a split ring and a
pin. The pins hold the joining
sections together while the rings
provide a path for your cable to be
secured down the top of the full
length of the jib. Each ring opens
and closes to easily install your
cabling. |
| |
| How
does it attach to my tripod? |
| Just
remove your tripod head with 100mm
ball intact. Slide the jib's
mounting hub back into the bowl and
screw the handle back in the bottom.
Level and tighten the handle
securely. |
| |
| How
does it attach to my camera? |
| We
provide you with a 1/4" "knob bolt"
which is fine for most cameras. For larger
cameras you may request a 3/8"
threaded version. If you're
purchasing a motorized head then
they are fitted with a 1/4"
adjustable thread. |
